The Rut-while-R

It was the 'Ol Sage who approached the front yard fence as I was picking-up Winter litter in the yard. He stopped and we talked by the side of the road. He told his story about that rare breed of dog....the Rut-while-R. It was a dog, sometimes often confused with a similarly pronounced dog, that was a menace to local drivers in the Heartland. This unique dog, the Rut-while-R, would dig trenches in the road, often at intersections, causing cars to continue straight ahead.  The dog-dug ditch prevented them from making a needed change in their life's direction.

In the old days, the Sage went on to say, stories ran rampant about those who defiantly tried to make a turn along their road of life....refusing to stay in the rut. Nightmares were common with cars that broke an axle, tires torn off the rim....even stories about cars that were left to rust in the middle of the road...with road diversions built around them.

Those Rut-while-Rs were a real problem. It seemed they learned when they forced cars off course, they could get food from the frustrated drivers. The Heartlanders finally got so upset, they set-out on a "clean-up" plan that nearly wiped-out all the Rut-while-Rs. A few of these rare dogs escaped into the woods only to return periodically...often in our dreams.

The 'Ol Sage gave me one of those eye-to-eye looks as he ended his story. Be careful on your road of life not to be thrown off course by one of those Rut-while-Rs. They'll try to keep you in a comfortable life style. They'll keep you from your goals. Those ruts on our road of life have kept many a good Heartlander from reaching his human potential.

And, so there you are....a true story given to me by The 'Ol Sage. I have no reason to doubt him. Anyone seen a Rut-while-R in the neighborhood?

 Home please...

So...have you seen any Rutt-while-R's in your neighborhood? Sit down, pull up that key board and tell me about it!
