In 2005, I had an unexpected heart attack.
For a week, I could not and did not write any letters to the cadets  currently in the Lincoln's ChalleNGe Academy.  I feared they could not survive without my letters.  I was wrong but it was immediatly after my hospital release that I wrote the following words of encouragement.

God’s plan for you

Sometimes, it seems that God doesn’t protect us from the “storms of life” or the unexpected potholes.
Often God doesn’t shelter us from the hurricanes or tornadoes.
On occasion, one might suspect that God even created a stumbling block that we stumbled over.
If that’s true, where is that loving God we hear so much about?

He is at work.
He is busy giving us the strength for another day.
He is protecting us from more devastation that we can cope with.
He is watching over us, as we grow stronger.

It may be that some of our storms are “home made” by us.
It may be that He doesn’t often interfere with the natural forces.
It may be we grow stronger as we confront and conquer fearful tasks.
It may be there is no “win” while sitting in front of the TV and playing at night.

God doesn’t promise us a lounge chair in front of the TV.
He doesn’t give us more than we are worthy to care for.
He knows it’s the struggle that makes us strong.
He doesn’t give us success.  We must earn it.

Like the butterfly in the cocoon, so your struggles make you worthy.
Like the butterfly, you begin ugly and emerge strong and ready.
Like the butterfly, the process of your growth leads you to greater heights of success than you could have ever dreamed.
Like the butterfly, you begin constrained and emerge free.

You are living within God’s plan and He is at work in your life…
I know it is so.
