The Ol' Sage speaks on Winterization

The weathermen were all in unison...below freezing for The Heartland. Antifreeze was selling like "Hot Cakes". The folks had to protect their engines yet the Antifreeze was nearly sold out. And, here we were with a motor home vulnerable to the elements. So, this message began as I was driving home with success in my mission to find Antifreeze. As I rounded the curve on the Lincoln Trail, I neared the Ol' Sage's house. As I looked ahead, I thought I saw the Sage on his knees with a flag posted nearby. He seemed to be praying. It was quite a sight for the passer-by. It looked like a Norman Rockwell painting.

I pulled into the drive. The noisy engine caught the Sage's attention and he paused in "his cause" to see who was coming onto his property. He got to his feet and walked to the car. "What are you up to now?", I asked with a little humor yet I knew he was not one to up-stage our politicians. He hesitated, looked to the ground and I could have sworn I saw a little moisture in his eyes. "Our country", he began. "Our country faces another election with all it's major candidates falling short of moral and political honesty." He went on to add that he has never heard so much dirt....and it's all told by each candidate's closest co-workers. What a deal to tolerate by the candidates...atleast, in Kennedy's day, they waited until the vail of death had fallen and cooled before telling 'the tails". Today, it seems, each candidate knows he is not worthy of the political position, so he goes for the political juggler of his opposition.

The campaigns, managed by statisticians and political planners, aren't winning with the traditional "smoke and mirrors" techniques.....so, they go for throwing dirt! They have only succeeded in angering The Heartland Folks! They continue to ignore the voter. They continue to believe the voter seeks only his own betterment and freely disregards the "good" of the country. They continue to believe the voter will "settle" for the candidate who offers the most gifts. The Sage ended his dissertation with the thought..."Our nation can not survive such leadership for long. We must search for folks in this maize of liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, statisticians, political punsters...and find someone who is honest and seeks to help this nation grow without benefit from special interests." The Ol Sage smiled as he added...."And, that's quite a job!".

I told the Ol' Sage where I had been...winterizing the car. He suggested that while I'm at it, I should consider adding some mental antifreeze to my political senses too. He's predicting lots of bad weather on the political front....lots of trama to our senses...lots of special interest entertainment....lots of national disappointments. "Is it a process of growth?", I asked. "No!", said the Ol' Sage, "It's just a different view of the same "old wolf in the sheep's clothing." It's an old problem compounded with a very big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. It's a game of "smoke and mirrors" played with a large number of antrapenuers who follow the golden threads to the teasure chest . No...it is not a process of growth. Our government is a gold mine waiting for more folks who can see beyond the treasure to the dream of a stronger America.

I smiled as I suggested he run for President. He smiled as he accepted. So, there you are. Just write "The ol' Sage" on your Presidential ballet. Lets put someone in office who can do the job...who we can trust....who is honest and loves this country. The perfect candidate. A little fictitious but that has never been an accusation made of any other candidate.

And with those thoughts, the Sage left to return to his front porch. His prayer continued. Take some time this week to join my neighbor. A little prayer never hurt anyone....and, right now, our country needs prayers! And, don't forget to vote.

Lets go home. Enough of this judgmental jibber-jabber!
