- It happened about a month ago, as he told it. But, first let me review
our story setting. You may recall, the Sage lives in his log cabin
which is nestled in the woods along the Lincoln Trail. It's a humble dwelling.
It's a basic one room cabin with everything in view. The only "home essential"
not in view is the bathroom....and that, you might have suspected, is because
it is outside.
- The most significant structural updating was when The Ol' Sage
and Abe laid down the Oak floor quite a few years ago. The cabin furnishings
stretch the limits of the old guy's age....Indian feathers, a Lava Lamp,
a pump organ, a neon light in the Kitchen area and a Pentium chip computer.
It was a cabin that tells lots of stories beginning with the Indians and
ending with today's most current electronic toys. It was an extraordinary
range of life in a dwelling where there were no structural updatings.
- But about a month ago while walking to the Kitchen,
The Sage saw a stranger.....an old stranger. He stopped and backed-up to
the image to look more closely. He suddenly realized who he saw. Yep....it
was a mirror. The "stranger" was himself. The stranger was the result of
time. He had kept moving, living, responding, improving his life style....
but he hadn't been paying attention to his appearance. He didn't feel old
but the mirror said differently. It was a frightening experience.
- So, his only solution was to remodel the cabin.
It took about 15 minutes.....he removed all the mirrors. He likes his cabin
a lot more now. He anticipates no more frightening visions.
-
- This most unexpected encounter with mirrors changed his view towards
lots of things. He is now sympathetic towards the "Wicked Witch from the
West". He supports handicapped parking spaces. He's watching for the lowest
prices on Grecian Formula. He talks more frequently about "beauty" being
more than "skin deep". He now understands why The Wizard of Oz hid himself
in smoke. He doesn't glare into pools of water and he has a new understanding
of reasons for Abe's beard.
- Yep....it's a reborn neighbor
I have. The Ol' Sage meets the "Golden Years" with a bang! Bye...from The
Heartland where time hasn't stood still inspite of lots of effort!
